It’s being released in 34 different countries around the world this week. Currently the Vroom Daily App is available in English and Spanish, with other languages to be introduced over the coming weeks.

Casio releases Chordana Composer iPhone app

casio chordana app

Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced on January 30 the release of Chordana Composer, an iPhone app that automatically composes a musical piece based on a two-bar melody created by the user. The app is available at the Apple App Store from January 30.

Chordana Composer is an app that allows anyone to easily create their very own original music – even if they do not know how to compose music or play an instrument. The user simply records himself or herself singing or whistling a tune for two musical bars, and the app automatically composes an entire piece of music based on that melody. The finished music not only can be played back for the user’s enjoyment, but it can also be emailed as an audio file to friends. Music can be composed even without the ability to write music or play an instrumentchordanacomposerfull

To use Chordana Composer, the user simply thinks of a two-bar melody and records it on his or her iPhone, either by singing or whistling the motif. Then the user selects from the app’s five different music genres and three types of melodic settings, and finally presses the Auto Compose button to create an original piece of music complete with an intro and ending.

Users can also input the motif by playing the app’s keyboard interface or by entering notes in a score on the notation input interface. Moreover, melodies in the finished piece of music can be edited in the score.

Chordana Composer can be connected to MIDI-compatible electronic musical instruments. If it is connected to one of Casio’s electronic keyboards with light-up keys, the melodies in the pieces created by Chordana Composer will light up with the music.

To celebrate the new release of Chordana Composer, Casio is offering the app at a 40% discount from the regular sales price for a limited time, from January 30 to February 5.

#CES2015 TempTraq Wearable Bluetooth Thermometer Takes Home Coveted CES Editors’ Choice Award

Temptraq bluetooth thermometer app

TempTraq™, powered by Blue Spark Technologies, made its debut at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, generating excitement in the tech and parenting communities. So much so that TempTraq, the only wearable Bluetooth® thermometer to continuously monitor body temperature for 24 hours in the form of a soft comfortable patch, won a special CES Editors’ Choice Award from Reviewed.com, a division of USA TODAY. These awards are presented in partnership with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the organizing body of the Consumer Electronics Show.

According to Reviewed.com, to ensure the sole criteria for winning the award were the merits of the products themselves, no one from the CEA, or from Reviewed.com’s parent company, Gannett, was allowed to be involved in the decision making process. Any product debuting at CES 2015 was eligible, and the private process took place in a closed-room session January 6, the first official exhibit day of CES. Any product debuting at the show was eligible but when the voting process finished, the products remaining, including TempTraq, were the experts’ selections for best in show.

“We are honored to be chosen for this coveted award,” said John Gannon, president and CEO of Blue Spark Technologies. “We know TempTraq is a tremendous innovation, transforming our patented technology into a practical use product parents everywhere can appreciate. This award further validates our team’s beliefs that we have found a truly innovative way to monitor children’s health.”

TempTraq is a new frontier in the monitoring of sick children. It is powered by Blue Spark Technologies’ patented, printed flexible battery and includes a free downloadable Apple or Android compatible app, allowing users to reach a new level of health care for children of all ages, and even adults.

All users have to do is press the “start” button to activate the thermometer and connect it to the app via the unique code provided. As long as the caregiver is within range of the thermometer, they can easily review data and receive alerts, up to 40 feet away. They then apply the thin, flexible patch thermometer to the underarm of the child, similar to an adhesive bandage.

temptraq bluetooth thermometer iphoneUnlike other available devices that provide users with only one point of data and offer no continuous monitoring or alerts, the TempTraq app displays both real time and historical temperature data transmitted from the patch in graphical or tabular view, making it possible for caregivers to see fluctuations and quickly adapt treatment.

For more information on TempTraq, visit www.TempTraq.com.

Cab Share Canada allows you to save money and the environment

cab share canada

App developers Cab Share Canada have developed a new app called Taxi Sharing 2.0. It’s available now in Vancouver.

What does it do?

Taxi Sharing 2.0 allows you to search for people in your area who are going to similar destinations. Once everyone ‘commits to ride’ a chat appears for the passengers to discuss payment, pick-up times and drop-off points. Then you simply ‘call a cab’, which will appear as a button on your screen. It’s fast, it’s easy and saves you money – at least that’s what they say.

Who are they?

Taxi Sharing 2.0 was developed by a group of students from Simon Frasier University using a Kickstarter campaign. Kickstarter allows people to publish project ideas to online communities including friends, fans and other people who may want to help developers fund their projects. It’s a great idea and has been successful in this case because it helped Cab Share Canada create this useful and environmentally friendly app.

Being environmentally friendly was a real motivator for Cab Share Canada, and getting people to share taxis is a good way to start. They will also give 10% of their start-up profits to the World Wildlife Fund.

Not the first

Vancouver is not the first place to see this kind of cab-share app. London has seen a few over the past year. Apps like Uber, Hailo and Maaxi have been released and are becoming increasing popular on Apple’s app store. Cab drivers are protesting these apps, saying that taxi-sharing apps hurt their earning potential. Other taxi drivers have been more welcoming to the idea and some Black Cab drivers have even gone as far as offering free rides to work to help publicize the app.

Uber allows regular drivers to act as a taxi service cutting out the need for a cab. It has been on local news recently and is still struggling in BC because of because of legal loopholes. Cab Share Canada could be a great alternative to Uber as it seems to work with taxi cab owners not against them. It will be interesting to see how successful this app becomes and how it will affect cab owners in Vancouver.

Taxi Sharing 2.0 is available on Apple’s App store and a version for Android phones will be available soon.

Endomondo’s fitness app expands reach to more devices and users

After releasing updates earlier this year for Samsung Gear Fit and Gear 2, Garmin, TomTom and Pebble iOS users; the popular Endomondo Sports Tracker app now integrates today with Android Wear devices, as well as the Samsung Gear S smartwatch.

The free Android Wear update delivers a total of six real-time fitness stats across three screens.  A simple swipe lets users move through data, and information can be assigned to different pages with ease. Further, the integration allows people to easily start/pause/stop a workout while on the go.

The Samsung Gear S integration works similarly, but allows users to select between a total of nine configurable stats such as speed, distance or workout duration. Additionally, the built-in Gear S heart rate monitor can now supply data to Endomondo.

Supplemental information about features now offered to users can be found at Endomondo’s blog, as well as instructions for syncing Endomondo to various devices.  Mette Lykke, Endomondo’s CEO, said she sees this latest round of integration as another step toward Endomondo’s goal of offering a connected experience across multiple wearable devices so fitness remains engaging and fun.

New meditation app promises a more focused mind

I hate to start a review off on a negative note but unfortunately I was unable to review this app because I have an iPhone 4s. Fortunately my contract is finally coming to an end this October just in time for the new iPhone 6. That being said I’ve downloaded the app to my old iPhone and will be transferring to my new one when it arrives.

I must say I really was looking forward to some music to get me focused and so with that in mind went on the hunt for some alpha wave infused sounds to get me in the mood for some computer programming. I quickly found that YouTube was an excellent source and have listed a few links here for those with incompatible devices.

YellowBrickCinema – Alpha Waves for Focus

MeditationRelaxClub – Music for Concentration

zen180 appZen180 www.zen180.com launched today the free Zen180 App to get focused, creative, and help with the everyday stresses of living.  Available immediately through the iTunes store at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zen180/id902226237?ls=1&mt=8, the Zen180 app provides background audio that you can listen to while meditating, reading, studying, doing homework, or trying to relax.  The Zen180 app features 5 cognitive enhancing audio programs:  FOCUSED, CREATIVE, AWAKENED, RELAXED and ROMANTIC Mind.  The main FOCUSED audio track is free, with the other 4 tracks priced at $.99 each or $1.99 for all 4.  With Zen180, you can dramatically increase your mental and learning abilities, creativity, happiness, focus and concentration.  The app accomplishes this with its exclusive 3D binaural beats to mimic the desired state of mind to help you meditate on a deeper level with brain enhancement audio technology to augment the 5 natural brain wave patterns: Alpha, Beta, Delta, Theta and Gamma.

Experience the Benefits of Deep Meditation in Minutes

The Zen180 audio app allows you to experience all the benefits of deep meditation in a matter of minutes.  Just select the track for the specific state of mind you are trying to achieve (focused, creative, awakened, relaxed or romantic) and the time period (from 5 minutes to 30 minutes), put on your headphones and tap “start session” (Zen180 recommends you always use stereo headphones, since the app will not work properly with regular speakers).  The idea is to listen to the audio track with headphones while you are trying to focus on a task or simply to meditate.  You will notice how much better you can focus on your work or meditation while using the app.

Helps with Writer’s Block

Zen180’s CREATIVE Mind track can help creative people, such as writers and musicians, overcome the dreaded “writer’s block” or other creativity hang-ups and free the mind for new ideas and directions.  The AWAKENED Mind track helps students, frequent travelers, workaholics, and party animals pep up after a red-eye flight or late night out so they are ready to work the next day.  The ROMANTIC Mind track will bring you closer to loved ones and the RELAXED Mind track helps you completely relax and let go of problems when over-stressed.  “Scientists study meditation and doctors recommend it to help reduce stress.  Millions of Americans practice it every day. Why?  Because meditation works.  Zen180 unleashes your mind’s potential,” said Noah Rasheta, President, Zen180.

Zen180 App Features:

  • 5 cognitive enhancing audio programs:
    • FOCUSED Mind:  for reading, studying or writing.

iWitness Personal Safety App works with Seattle University

personal safetyThousands of people are the victim of assault each day in the United States.  Now, there’s a personal safety app for iPhone and Android devices aimed at preventing attacks. It’s called iWitness and it gives people a way to protect themselves using their smartphones.

Seattle University is the first college campus to encourage students to use this service.

“My goal is to ensure the safety of the Seattle University community not only when they are on the SU campus, but in their daily lives,” said Tim Marron, Executive Director of Public Safety and Transportation for Seattle University. “iWitness is an additional tool that we are presenting to our community. While using the application can potentially serve as a preventive measure, we believe the very act of installing the application will serve as a catalyst for heightening a student’s awareness.”

Here’s how it works. You simply download the iWitness app to your smartphone. You touch ‘record’ and ‘arm’ your phone if you’re walking alone, in an uncertain situation, or just feel uncomfortable. The app records a video clip – and automatically uploads it to a cloud server. The video does not stay on your phone. There’s nothing anyone can do to get the video off your phone, because it’s not there.

iWitness also calls 911 automatically, can sound an alarm, and  informs the student’s friends and family that they feel endangered.

A few daily crime statistics:
-1 in 6 women have been the victims of an attempted or completed rape
-Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted
-5,000 people are treated for assault in an ER each day

“Our mission is clear. We put safety in the hands of every person,” said iWitness founder David Remer. “We want to make sure that students have access to tools that will help them stay safe. iWitness helps parents provide their kids an added layer of protection as they head off to college, whether it be just down the road or across the country.”

About iWitness
iWitness is a personal safety tool that was developed to help prevent crime. Once you download the application on your smartphone, you have an “eyewitness” whenever you need one. The service is available for download on iOS and Android mobile platforms. iWitness is headquartered in Seattle.

bazinga! offers new avenues for connecting with your neighbours

bazinga! If you live in a condo or apartment building you may or may not know your neighbours. Often you make connections and realize that you may have more in common than you thought.

Enter bazinga! a Vancouver based company that aims offers an enhanced living package by leveraging those similar needs.

“Our platform connects people who share a building in a meaningful way in Vancouver says Joseph Nakhla, CEO of bazinga! This platform is riding on a lot trends happening now including social media and social network usage and the way people’s lives have become hyper local as a result of that.”

Consider this scenario. Say you need a babysitter and all your regular sitters are not available. You don’t know that your neighbour across the hall works at a daycare and could easily fill your babysitting need. Log in to bazinga! and bam you realize Susan is the perfect sitter you need.

Over 820 buildings have signed up for bazinga! as have some of Canada’s biggest developer names such as Bosa, Onni, Tridel, and Plaza.

bazinga! Online and as an App

bazinga! basically digitizes a building including all of its bylaws, document management, and other functions. Using the Loop which acts like a Facebook wall for a building, it allows residents to post an alert and tell their neighbours of things that are happening.

With bazinga! all information resides in one central place. Residents wanting to get bazinga! into their building must onboard the assets related to their building while new properties will already have it. Strata managers can act as an Administrator as can building residents.

bazinga! is not meant for strictly high income areas either. Lots of different income areas use it and it can be customized to specific building needs.

“Adoption and engagement rates are around 75 percent for a building on the platform. People average 6 and half minutes per session when using it. On mobile devices, people will login two times per day on average says Nakhla.”

When asked if bazinga! is for a younger demographic given their familiarity with technology, Nakhla says that is not the case at all. “We’re selling older and non connected generations on it too. This app can appeal to a range of people and income groups.”
